About Indian Association of Hill farming
The Indian Association of Hill farming is a non-profitable professional organization dedicated to promoting sustainable agricultural practices and improving the livelihoods of farmers in the hill regions of India. Established to address the unique challenges faced by farmers in hilly terrains, the IAHF focuses on research, education, and the dissemination of knowledge related to hill farming systems.
Hill farming in India involves managing variable climates, and limited resources, making it distinct from conventional agriculture practiced in the plains. The IAHF works closely with agricultural scientists, extension workers, policymakers, and local communities to develop innovative strategies that enhance productivity while preserving the fragile hill ecosystems. Their initiatives include promoting agroforestry, organic farming, soil and water conservation, and the cultivation of high-value crops suitable for hilly areas.
The society Established on 1987 with its working address at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam- 793004, Meghalaya is registered under Societies Act XII of 1983 with its Registration No. SR/IAHF 439/87 of 1987. Any person and abroad interested in Hill Farming Research and development shall be eligible for membership of Society (currently there are 705 Life Members). Every three years an election is held to elect working executive members for a period of three years. The Society (IAHF) also provides numerous advantages for its members, including:

- Research Publication: The Indian Journal of Hill Farming, with a NAAS rating of 4.67, offers a platform for publishing research papers.

- Voting Rights: Participate in decision-making processes and elect governing body members.
- Award: Annually, four IAHF Fellow, one each for IAHF Best Extentionist, IAHF Young Scientist, IAHF best MSc and IAHF best PhD thesis award
The society publishes The Indian Journal of Hill Farming (JRNID: I075, ISSN: 0970-6429), which provides a platform for sharing research. With a NAAS rating of 4.67 (effective January 1, 2024), the journal is published online biannually, along with a special issue released in between. It features diverse contributions, including communications in the form of research papers, review articles, short notes, and book reviews. The journals are accessible online at https://icarneh.icar.gov.in/IAHF/IJHF.html, with the latest publication being Volume 37, Issue 1 (June 2024).
The association organizes workshops, seminars, and brainstorming session from time to time which provide a common platform for the scientists, researchers, policy makers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to explore the various aspects of emerging challenges in agriculture and allied sectors in horticulture, animal sciences and fisheries and to address emerging matrix of the agricultural.
During last ten year society organized following two major events i.e. National Seminars
- National Seminar on “Emerging challenges and prospective strategies for hill agriculture in 2050” from 23-25 Jan, 2014 at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre
- National Seminar on “Sustaining Hill Agriculture in Changing Climate (SHACC)" at Agartala, during 5-7th December, 2015.

- Collaborate with Indian Association of Soil and Water Conservationists, Dehradun, Uttarakhand for jointly organize National Conference on “Farmers First for Conserving Soil and Water Resources in North Eastern Region" during February 09th - 11th, 2017 at AAU Campus, Khanapara, Guwahati, Assam, India.
- National Seminar on “Smart Farming for Enhancing Input Use efficiency, Income and Environmental Security” during 19-21 September, 2017.
- Brainstorming workshop on “Rice Residue Burning in Manipur - Issues and Strategies for Sustainable Management” on 23rd January 2018
- Collaborate with Innovative Farming, West Bengal for jointly organize 1st Farm Innovation Congress (FIC), 2018 and National Conference on "Innovative Farming for Food and Livelihood Security in Changing Climate" during on 12-13, January, 2018.
- Collaborate with Cotton Research and Development Association (CRDA), CCS HAU, Hisar, Haryana for jointly organizes International Congress on Cotton and Other Fibre during 20-23 February, 2018.
- National Conference on “Rebooting the hill farming for future sustainability and livelihood (RHFFSL 2023) during 8th -9th June, 2023.
